LINDA AND DEREK

Calgary Bridal Guide Features Edward Ross Photography: With 20 years of experience in wedding photography he is known for his eye for fashion and sophisticated lighting, all while keeping the focus on the emotions and moments of your day which are captured in a fun and engaging way. Check out more of his recent work at www.blog.edwardrossphotography.com About the Couple: In 2007, Derek was residing in New York City and traveled to Toronto for a blind date with Linda. After a few conversations they learned that they grew up close to one another in Calgary, and share a love for wine, food, traveling, art and history. Derek proposed to Linda at a local winery with a solo piano piece he composed for her. The wedding theme featured their “favourite” things. Linda designed the invitations, table cards, center pieces and decorations while Derek, owner of Cantabile Wedding Music, composed original music for the ceremony. NADIA & PAUL | F8 PHOTOGRAPHY

nadia_paul1

Nadia and Paul met in a parking lot in high school over a mutual dislike of coffee. In the 11th grade, Nadia realized she actually liked coffee, but more importantly, she liked Paul. In grade 12, Paul asked Nadia out in a truly romantic fashion – handing her a single, red rose and saying “This should be self-explanatory”. The proposal 9 years later went much the same way, in a parking lot again, with a gorgeous ring and the same 5 magical words. To Paul’s credit, it was self-explanatory. The wedding was a true representation of Nadia and Paul. Their ‘vintage-retro affair meets strange and quirky’ had all the bizarre things they wanted regardless of how they fit; a school bus instead of a limo because Nadia is a teacher, vintage clothing because of their love for the romantic 50s style, key lime pie because it was their favorite dessert, a door prize of welcome gnomes because they own a strange collection, colouring sheets and crayons because that was how they spent many Discover More …

JODIE & JORDAN | INSPIRED OCCASIONS

Jodie_Jordan1

Jodie and Jordan worked with wedding planner and designer Terra Law of Inspired Occasions to come up with the fresh and fun design for their event. They decided on a palette of vibrant green and chocolate brown to compliment the Calgary Zoo’s Safari Lodge. To play up the high ceilings at their venue, Terra designed tall centerpieces featuring granny smith apples, curly willow, and mini green cymbidium orchids. Green up lighting was also brought in to add drama and excitement to the space. The tables were named after favorite locations from their hometown and the reverse side featured pictures of the couple with “he said” “she said” quotes that were unique to each table. The couple’s custom monogram featuring a double “J” design, which was first introduced on their invitations, was also incorporated into the ceremony programs, card box, water bottles, head table design, and custom GOBO that graced the dance floor. MIN & JUSTIN | LYNN FLETCHER WEDDINGS INC AND THE WESTIN HOTEL

min_justin1

Min and Justin met through a mutual friend and clicked instantly. Their magnetic personalities matched perfectly! After a romantic proposal in Lake Louise, Min and Justin instantly got down to the planning process and was referred to planner/designer Lynn Fletcher of Lynn Fletcher Weddings Inc. Together, they enthusiastically batted ideas around on many different topics. The ceremony was to be grand, theatrical, and emotional. A jazz trio sang “Falling Slowly” as Min walked down the aisle under white trees dripping with crystals and lights. Spotlights followed her down the aisle as if she were an angel walking through the forest. This was Min’s favorite part of the entire day despite, all of their plans for the décor, dinner and dance later that day. Justin really wanted a club atmosphere of fun, after dinner and his only request was that Lynn had to find a way to get everyone up on the dancefloor. It was an easy task with the Dinos Martinis Band on the stage. The band's Discover More …

MADDIE & DWAYNE | ABSOLUTE PHOTOGRAPHY

maddie_dwayne1

Maddie and Dwayne met nearly 9 years ago in a high school physics class. Dwayne was not doing so well in the class and so Maddie offered to tutor him. Over the semester, their friendship grew stronger – even if Dwayne’s grades did not! Earning their title of high school sweethearts, Maddie and Dwayne have been together ever since. Maddie & Dwayne both come from European backgrounds and the size of their wedding reflected that – there were over 300 guests! The wedding was fairly traditional but with a modern and youthful twist. The ceremony was held at the beautiful Corpus Christi Parish and the reception was held at the Polish Canadian Cultural Centre. The reception embodied exactly what Maddie and Dwayne had hoped for and the photographer, Brian, from Absolute Photography captured every moment. As a memento of the wedding day, guests enjoyed a fun photo booth and silly props from Fuze Entertainment. The DJ from Sounds Unlimited was amazing! In fact, the party went so late, a Discover More …

Erin is from High River, Alberta and Jonathan is from West Northfield, Nova Scotia but their paths crossed in Fredericton at the University of New Brunswick. Jon and Erin are both assistant coaches for Varsity Reds teams; Jon coaches Soccer and Erin Volleyball. It didn’t take long for them to make a connection and fall in love. The wedding day was filled with personalized touches and unique details that represented the happy couple. Their favorite detail of the ceremony was the handcrafted arch made from driftwood from the Highwood River with their names and wedding date carved into it. The arch was constructed by the bride’s Uncle. The couple surprised each other with personalized vows and also had a sand ceremony combining sand from their home provinces, Alberta and Nova Scotia, as well as with sand from New Brunswick, where they met and currently live. The wedding party started the reception with an energetic entrance and dance routine! One of the most memorable moments of Discover More …

STEPH & GUY | LAVISH WEDDING PLANNING AND DESIGN

Steph_Guy1

Stephanie and Guy met through mutual friends who all shared a love for snowboarding. With this in common, they hit it off right away! As Stephanie is an interior designer and has a natural eye for design, she incorporated lots of DIY touches to make the wedding truly personal. She created all of the stationery, and decided on a combination of chocolate brown and apple green; the brown representing her natural earthy side, while the green was a tribute to her mom, who passed away in 2007. Another element that they wanted in the wedding was their avocado green 1979 Volkswagon Van. The groom and groomsmen made their grand entrance in the van, while excited guests whooped and hollered, and the string quartet played Stairway to Heaven! Outdoor games, a bouncy house, and customized kids favour boxes designed by Lavish went a long way to keep all 25 children who attended happy! With a hectic work life, they had help turning their vision into reality from Mary at Lavish – Wedding Discover More …
